FAQs

Inclement weather policy.

In case of severe weather, The Market may delay opening, stop service, or close early. Before coming to shop, please give us a call at 833-822-7627 to determine if we are open. Our website page will also post any changes to Market operations because of severe weather.

How do I qualify?

Any family who needs assistance may visit the Market two times per month. Some food items in the Market are from the USDA, who require families to have income at or below 185% of Federal poverty guidelines and a resident of either Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Somerset or Washington County. If you feel you do not meet these guidelines, give us a call at 833-822-7627 to see how we can help you.

What do I need to bring with me?

When visiting the Market for the first time, neighbors are encouraged to bring a photo ID with them to help with the intake process. However, a photo ID is not required. After your first few visits to the Market, you will be given a barcode card, which you should bring every time you visit.

What if I can only visit between 11:30am & 1pm?

Guests who arrive between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. will be offered a Market Mix pre-packed box but will not be invited to shop during that time. Guests who arrive between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. or after 3:30 p.m. will be offered a Market Mix, which includes dry goods, toiletries, and frozen food. However, guests will not be invited to shop during this time.

Is there a lot of paperwork?

There may be some paperwork. We encourage our guests to fill out our registration form online via their phone when they arrive. However, if this is not possible, we will give you a paper registration form to fill out before you can shop. This will only take about five minutes.

Do I need to make an appointment?

No appointments needed.

What do I do when I get there?

At the Market, you will be greeted by a staff member who will assist you with the registration process. After that, your name will be called so you can start shopping for groceries with a volunteer.

How many times can I visit?

You are welcome to visit The Market twice per month, but not more than one time in a single calendar week.

Can I get food for someone else?

Yes, as long as the person you are getting food for has completed a proxy form with your name on it. If there is a current proxy form on file with your name on it, you can pick up a pre-packed Market Mix box for them or you can pick up their OrderAhead order. Please note that no one can shop for someone else. You are welcome to pick up for up to two households other than your own.

Can someone else get food for me?

Yes, as long as you have a completed proxy form on file with their name on it. Please note that the person you list as your proxy cannot shop for you, but they will be able to pick up a pre-packed Market Mix box or an OrderAhead order that you’ve placed in advance. Any other person who is listed as a member of your household and is over the age of 18 can shop in The Market for your household.
